HORT100 - General Information

Textbook & Course Web Site

The textbook used by this course is:

Skirvin, R. M. 2006. Introduction to Horticulture. 6^th Edition. Stipes Publishing LLC, Champaign, IL.

The cover has brown oak leaves. Be sure you have the 6^th Edition! Previous editions lack material that will be covered in class. This book will serve as lecture outlines for the semester, though occasionally the text will be supplemented with other handouts or via slides or web pages.

The course web site can be found at http://courses.nres.uiuc.edu/HORT100/ (obviously). Course announcements, supplemental information and lecture material, and practice exams are available online. It is the student's responsibility to check the web site occasionally for important information regarding the course.

Classroom Policy

You are encouraged to discuss any difficulties that you may have in this course in my office at the Madigan Laboratory. I usually will be available either before or after class for conferences. However, for other times, I prefer that you make an appointment with me, send an e-mail, or leave a message with my secretary (333-1965).

Regular attendance to lectures is expected. You will soon discover that much of the material discussed in class will not be found in the handouts.
